Beccles & Bungay Taekwondo clubs held their last belt grading of the year 2018

Beccles & Bungay Taekwondo clubs have very active student memberships with well over a 100 members between them and 40 students successfully completed their last grading of 2018.

They were put through their paces by Mr Gillett 5th Dan, and Mr King 6th Dan the GTUK association Examiner from Wellingborough. All students demonstrated great enthusiasm and endurance during the 4 hour grading of techniques, patterns, self-defence, sparring and destruction, they were also tested on their knowledge of Korean terminology.

Mr King said ‘Standards were excellent and they were again a credit to the region and their instructors, all students worked really hard, and are being awarded a 100% pass rate’.

The grading was then followed by an end of year party and presentation evening of new belts and student awards. Students and their families enjoyed a superb buffet of savouries and cakes.

Congratulations to our students who attended the GTUK British Taekwondo Championships last weekend

Jason and Barbara

Five Beccles Taekwon-do Black Belts travelled to the competition held in Coventry, and this was the 2nd weekend running Beccles had students heading across the country to a major Taekwon-do event.

All worked tirelessly helping with organising and refereeing the competitors squares with a special mention for Bella Gibson who did a fantastic job of chaperoning competitors around all day.

Barbara Mazza and Jason Drake then entered their respective categories later in the day, and were both very successful in their events.

Taekwondo Black Belts

Congratulations to Beccles Taekwon-do students on their 100% Black Belt grading success!

Five students from Beccles Taekwon-do Club travelled 150 miles to Ryton-on-Dunsmore near Coventry, where their Black Belt grading took place on Saturday 27th October.

Taekwon-do Black Belt gradings are a test of mental and physical abilities, 3 pattern sequences of strikes, kicks and blocks; self defence, step sparring, full sparring, the breaking of 2 inch pine boards with hand and feet techniques, Korean theory along with a thesis about Taekwon-do which students need to prepare in the months beforehand.

This grading is a true test of the student and their preparation, with no quarter given throughout a gruelling day, performed in front of the GTUK senior instructors including Master Auciello 7th Degree, and Grand Master Oldham 9th Degree who’s history links the Beccles club back to the originator of Taekwon-do General Choi Hong Hi in 1955.

It takes great dedication and commitment to learn Taekwon-do, with up to 4 years training to become a 1st Degree Taekwon-do Black Belt, on your journey you achieve a great level of confidence, strength, fitness and can make lifetime friendships along the way.

Club instructors Mr and Mrs Bedingfield have worked tirelessly over the last few months to ready their students for this challenge, and have been rewarded with these fantastic results and congratulations to:

Jason Drake 2nd Degree, Black Belt

Barbara Mazza 1.5 Degree, Black Belt

Bella Gibson Junior 1st Degree, 1st Star, Black Belt

Liam Mills Junior 1st Degree, 1st Star, Black Belt

Paul Chapman 1st Degree, Black Belt
